An Old Source of Life, A New Source of Living

The Ifugao Tinawon! It's been the stuff of an Ifugao meal for ages. Recently, it began to lose its huge popularity mainly because of economic reasons. Tinawon, literally translates as, yearly. And this is because the variety matures in a period of one year. This characteristic made the Ifugao Tinawon a rice variety that increasingly became economically not feasible to cultivate. The increasing population of course pushed the demand for rice higher. The supply of tinawon cannot cope up with this increasing demand so Ifugao farmers began to opt for higher yielding varieties. This movement almost caused the total demise of the Ifugao Tinawon rice variety!
